Directed by Luis Bunuel Belle de Jour is a movie about a young woman named Severine (played by Catherine Denevue) who decides to become a day-time prostitute and night-time high society wife. Sexually abused as a child, Severine can only live through her desires while day dreaming. Her frigidness and blunt attitude towards life are overshadowed by her beauty. Everyone including her husband take her as an innocent, shy girl who has not yet become a woman. Pierre, a handsome, successful doctor, patiently awaits for the day his wife will open to him and give him a child. Conflicted by her past and present lives, Severine choose a double life, one in the brothel and the other at her luxurious home.
